Kya Bree

Well, as some of you may know, I had a grand baby. Her name is Kya Bree. And she was born on New Years of 2008. She was premature. Which means she was born before her bue date. My daughter, her mother, Erica, was only 24 weeks and 5 days along. Which makes Kya's gestational age at birth to be about 6 months. She just barely made it. The doctors said that if she had been born a few days before she was she would not have made it. And even now that her chances weren't that great. But she's now 11 months old. She's still got her beautiful blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. She's only 7 lbs 15 oz. So her prematurity is still having some effect on her. But, Dr. Zimmerman (Primary Pediatrician) is doing her best to try and find the problem. She eats like a cow! Haha she has grown alot since birth. She was born 1lb 9 1/2oz and 12 & 1/2" long. As of today, 11-25-2008, she is 7lb 15oz and 23 & 1/4". She stayed in the NICU (Neonatal Itensive care Unit) at Sacred Heart Hospital for about 3 months. She was due April 16th, 2008 and that was her expected date to leave the NICU. And she ended up getting out about the 13th or 14th of March. Anyways, here's some pictures from her birth to recently now.

Baby Kya IS HOME !!!

Yes finally after over 3 months in the hospital she has gotten to come home.Mom & Dad are so happy, even the sleepless nights aren't bothering them. Having Kya at home is such a relief for all of us and me being the proud Granny ...lol I can say that I am so happy that she has made it this far. Being born at 5 months and having to stay in the hospital for that long was really hard on her parents but they survived and now that she is home all is quickly being forgotten.
She still is on oxygen and they have her on a very special diet but I can see that this little one has been a fighter all her short life and will not give up. She is growing like a weed and is a very happy content baby. This the a recent picture of her just days before she came home. So much different from the before pictures of her at just over 1 pound. She now weights just over 5 pounds. Still thats very small but premies have a way of catching up.
